Selecting just a few winners from the exciting, innovative applications we receive for Shell Springboard is tough. Each year, we assemble a group of business and climate change experts who are more than equal to the task, and who will give their time to help find small businesses that could make a real difference.
The assessment process and judging will be carried out by independent groups. A very limited number of Shell employees will be involved indirectly in the management of this process. These Shell employees and the individuals in the assessment groups and judging panels will be subject to certain obligations of confidentiality in relation to the management of the process and the submissions reviewed. Completed applications will not be seen by others not involved in the assessment and judging process.
Shortlisting will be done by an independent group. There may be more than one of these, depending on the number of applications and the range of ideas submitted. Shortlist assessors will be chosen for their expertise and impartiality, and will also be bound by confidentiality agreements not to disclose application details to third parties.
Shortlisting will be carried out based on information you provide in the on-line application form. You should make sure that all relevant information is included in the form, and that it is set out clearly and consistently.
It is important to us that, once shortlisted, you get the chance to meet the judges face–to-face at one of the three UK judging panels to be held in February each year. The judges will want to understand more about how and why you think your idea is innovative, why additional carbon savings will result from it, and how commercially viable it is. They will also consider the material impact the award will have on the business and the credibility of the team behind the project.
Once the regional awards have been announced, up to two businesses from each region will meet a national panel of judges, as they compete to be named the overall UK winner. No additional financial award will be provided at this stage, but the overall winner will receive additional publicity and recognition. In addition to the assessment criteria at the regional judging, the national judges will also make an assessment of the credibility of your presentation and team. In other words, they will look at your idea from the perspective of potential investors. Click below to find out who our previous years judges were:
