Professor Patrick Corbett, Total Professor in Petroleum Geo-engineering, Herriot Watt
Professor Patrick Corbett is a leading voice in the area of petroleum geo-engineering. He is based at Heriot Watt University where he is also the Sub Dean of the University and Head of the University’s Institute of Petroleum Engineering. Current research interests include well testing, petrophysics, geoengineering and sustainability.
Patrick’s commercial experience has seen him working across the world since 1978 and he remains Chief Geologist for Unocal’s work in Indonesia.
Sharon Bamford, Chief Executive, The Scottish Institute for Enterprise
Sharon Bamford’s career has spanned launching businesses herself and working to support new businesses. She has launched five companies, ranging from through international project management consultancy to Montessori pre-schools, lectured in entrepreneurship at the Robert Gordon University, managed an incubator facility, and been Director of the University of Edinburgh's flagship £100 million science park development.
Sharon’s work as Chief Executive of The Scottish Institute for Enterprise, aims to boost the commercialisation potential of university science and technology research.
Lloyd Austin, Chair, Scottish Environment LINK
Lloyd Austin is Chair of Scottish Environment LINK, the forum for Scotland's voluntary environment organisations. Scottish Environment LINK works closely with the government to develop environmental policy and legislation. Lloyd’s particular interests lie in environmental law, site designations, planning, freshwater and marine policy as well as climate change and energy matters.
Monica Straughan, Head of Communications, Scottish Environmental Protection Agency
Monica Straughan has spent much of her career in the environmental field. Previous to working for SEPA she worked for Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) and both SNH’s predecessor bodies, the Nature Conservancy Council for Scotland and the Countryside Commission for Scotland.
Monica Straughan has been head of communications of SEPA since 2004. SEPA regulates activities that might pollute Scotland’s air, water and land as well as maintaining a national flood warning system and implementing the National Waste Strategy.
Annette Pinner (Area Manager Environment Agency - NW)
Annette Pinner is the Area Manager for the Environment Agency for Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire. She has worked for the Environment Agency since 1999. She has also worked for the National Radiological Protection Board and spent 3 years in the United States where she lectured at Cleveland State University.
Erik Bichard (CE Sustainability NW)
Erik has spent his entire career working on environmental issues. He has degrees in environmental sciences, noise control and land use planning disciplines and was Cheshire County Council's first ‘Environmental Planner’. Erik is non-Executive Director of Greater Manchester Waste Ltd, a member of the Northwest Business Environment Partnership Board (ENWORKS) and a member of the Co-operatives UK Performance Panel.
Lord Wade of Chorlton
Lord Wade of Chorlton is a businessman and agriculturalist and has been a member of the House of Lords since 1990. He is President of the Combined Heat and Power Association and is a past Chair of the English Cheese Export Council. In the Lords, he has served as a Member of the Science and Technology Select Committee, and was Chairman of the House of Lords Science and Technology Inquiry ‘Chips for Everything’.
Dr Kevin Anderson
Dr Kevin Anderson is a leading expert on climate change at the Tyndall Centre – the UK’s flagship climate change research centre. He is currently working on the ‘decarbonising society’ project that assesses options to reduce greenhouse gases nationally and globally. The Tyndall Centre has recently submitted evidence to the government’s official review of how to cut carbon dioxide emissions over the next forty five years.
Tim Curtis, Chief Operating Officer at the Energy Saving Trust
Tim Curtis is Chief Operating Officer of the Energy Saving Trust. The EST works to address the damaging effects of climate change and improve air quality by cutting emissions from household energy consumption and road transport. The Energy Saving Trust was set up by the government following the 1992 Rio Earth Summit and is one of the UK's leading organisations addressing the damaging effects of climate change.
Mark Kenber, Policy Director, the Climate Group
Mark is an economist who has worked on environmental issues for over a decade in non-governmental organisations, the public and private sectors. Immediately prior to joining The Climate Group, Mark was Senior Policy Officer at WWF’s International Climate Change Programme, focusing on carbon market and finance issues and coordinating the Programme’s economics-related work. His other experience includes being Director of Planning at Fundacion Natura, Ecuador’s largest environmental organisation, acting as climate change advisor to the Ecuadorian government and a wide range of consultancies. Mark is an occasional lecturer at Sussex University’s Institute for Development Studies and also serves on the advisory boards of a number of environmental organisations.
Ricardo Martinez-Botas, Imperial College, University of London
Ricardo is a senior lecturer at Imperial College London, which is regularly recognised as one of the best universities in the world for technology - ranked 5th in the world for technology by the Times Higher Education Supplement. His research activities are part of the Energy Technology for Sustainable Development Group in Mechanical Engineering, Imperial College. These research activities are directed towards technologies increase the environmental sustainability of energy supplies and provide environmentally sustainable supplies for developing countries. Ricardo's work is focused on turbines and fuel cells.
