Retrofit hybrid bus engines
Vantage Power’s has created a hybrid bus engine that can be easily retrofitted into existing fleets – saving operators thousands of pounds on fuel costs, and generating significant carbon reductions.
Shell Springboard 2013 national winner Vantage Power has developed a diesel electric hybrid engine which can be retrofitted into double-decker buses across the UK, helping operators to save £20,000 per bus per year in fuel as well as reducing emissions by 40%.
The start-up company was founded by two young entrepreneurs, Alex Schey and Toby Schulz. The pair already had extensive experience in the world of hybrid and electric vehicles having instigated the Racing Green Endurance project – which involved designing and driving an electric supercar from Alaska to Argentina in 2010.
Since winning the Shell Springboard award, the company has signed a distribution deal with the UK’s largest used bus distributor, attracted over £1million of further funding, and has attended a UKTI trade mission to Colorado with a view to establishing contacts in key export markets.
Alex Schey is convinced that “the funding and national recognition associated with Shell Springboard propelled us into the next phase of Vantage Power’s development, and is helping commercialise the hybrid retrofit system.”
