    Project:
    Clean Heat
    Year:
    2006
    Status:
    Regional Winner & UK Finalist

Homeowners across the UK could save 20% on the cost of their annual heating bill according to the inventor of Clean Heat, an ultra-efficient heating pump developed by Lancashire based EA Technical Services. Clean Heat will produce one and a half times more heat than any other known heat pump for the same amount of power, according to company director Ron Driver.

Combining a unique automotive air management system with a new form of heat pump, Clean Heat will heat in winter and cool in the summer with minimal electric power. The built-in air management efficiencies of the engine and heatpump make the increased heat production possible, EA Technical Services claim. The technology for Clean Heat has been developed over a number of years by Ron Driver, a former Rolls Royce Engineer, who observed that greater efficiencies could be achieved from a conventional engine by improving its air management. This original breakthrough was later combined with heating technology to create the current concept.

EA Technical Services' own estimates show that greenhouse gas emissions for the UK could be reduced by a staggering 53 million tonnes per year if Clean Heat were adopted universally. EA Technical Services is continuing a local tradition of engineering excellence. In the post war era the area was home to some of the country's most gifted engineers, who helped to develop Frank Whittle's gas turbine engine.
