Despite growing awareness of the need to save energy, it can sometimes be difficult to know where to start.Working on the principle that in order to effect behaviour change you need to educate people about their energy usage, enhance their ability to cut wastage, and encourage them to continue to make changes; Green Energy Options have developed a system to give a helping hand. The GEO Enforma consists of a number of sensors which gather information about energy use, this is then output to a local network, and can be presented on screen, making it possible to view the areas where savings can be made. Green Energy Options are currently looking at providing the technology to schools, this way lessons can be planned around energy saving. The system allows for year long projects to be undertaken. Pupils can use it to identify where the most energy is consumed in their schools, and look at possible improvements which can be made, perhaps with the help of funding from their local authority. They can then implement the changes and use the technology to show the ‘payback’ of the investment in saving energy. Smaller projects which attempt to change individual behaviours in classrooms can also be constructed, the GEO Enforma can be used to encourage pupils to make small changes liketurning off lights and appliances.
