Why install solar panels when you can use your windows to create climate-friendly electricity? This is the idea behind Hamish Watson’s new company, Polysolar Ltd, which produces transparent glazing that can transform sunlight into electricity. The glazing is based on organic photovoltaic materials that offer high performance area coverage at a low cost. It can replace standard windows, saving developers the labour costs of installing separate solar panels. Currently more than half of the cost of fitting solar panels is associated with the labour, not the product – a significant saving for developers.
